Getting Started

Review Requirements

The Water, Wastewater, and Industrial Treatment technologies program at GateWay Community College provides the education, and teaches the skills, needed to become a successful technician.

Because employers require experienced technicians, the GateWay program provides the theoretical concepts, as well as hands-on practical experience. This knowledge and experience is gained through completing the program to earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Water and Industrial Wastewater Treatment Technologies. In addition, the GateWay classes prepare you to take the state certification exam, which is required by the State of Arizona in order to work in this field.

Apply for Admission

All NEW students to GateWay Community College must complete a Student Information Form. The following are four ways to do this:

  • Use the on-line Student Information Form.
  • Call one of our registration operators at (602) 286-8100, and they will take your information on the telephone.
  • Call (602) 286-8100 to receive the form, complete it, and submit it in person at the GateWay Admissions, Registration and Records Office (Room 504K).
  • Call (602) 286-8100 to receive the form, complete it, and FAX it to the GateWay Admissions, Registration and Records Office at (602) 286-8072.
  • Apply online through the AzMENTOR program.

Take Placement Test

The test is a collection of three placement exams designed to identify skill levels in English, reading, and mathematics. Scores are used to decide which courses to take. Students placed in the proper level courses have a much better chance of success. Testing is free and provided by the Student Assessment Center.

step 4

Apply for Financial Aid

Apply for financial aid, using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). At GateWay, only one initial application for grants, work study, and student loans is required.  It's that easy and you may apply for financial aid at any time!

step 5

Consult an Advisor

Advisors at GateWay are available by appointment, or on a walk-in basis. It is best to come in well before you plan to enroll. Many classes and programs fill up long before the semester begins and, often, there are additional steps that need to be completed after the first meeting with an advisor. The following are several steps a student can do in order to get the most from a meeting with an advisor:

  • Have official transcript(s) sent to GateWay from all colleges and schools previously attended. Some programs also require high school/GED transcripts for admission.
  • Obtain a copy of the current college catalog and read it through. The catalog gives the official information about all of the academic programs, registration policies, and procedures.
  • Read the current class schedule. It has all of the important dates, class times, phone numbers, and office hours.
  • Think of questions to ask before your visit.

NOTE:  70% of students start as "undecided." Your Advisor can help you choose courses that will apply to most degrees and give you an introduction into your areas of interest.

step 6

Register for Class

GateWay’s convenient, easy-to-use My Schedule Web site will help you sort through and select the classes, days, times, and credits that work for you.  Build your class schedule each semester before registering for class. E-mail and/or print your schedule to assist you during registration.
