Career Description 

Occupational Safety and Health Specialists (OSHS) inspect places of employment for unsafe equipment and working conditions. As a specialist you will follow up on employee complaints of unsafe work practices. This career requires you to spend a great deal of time in the field, inspecting and enforcing a wide range of laws, regulations, policies and procedures.You will also be required to research, develop and implement programs to correct safety and health problems.

As an OSHS, you will assist employers in complying with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) regulations and standards. In the event of a violation, unsafe practices are recorded and brought to the attention of the employer. The employer is given a date by which time the problem needs to be corrected. As a specialist, you will need specific written and verbal skills to market and teach safety programs to all employees.
